Sigma Cipta Utama, a Subsidiary of Elnusa Continues to Strengthen Radio Trunking Competence

Jakarta, December 1, 2022 - PT Elnusa Tbk (Elnusa), a leading energy services company through its subsidiary PT Sigma Cipta Utama (SCU) continues to improve the quality of its human resources (HR) within the company. Through the upskilling program, SCU consistently strengthens the capabilities and expertise of its officers, especially in the company's core business which focuses on Radio Trunking services/solutions.

SCU, which has been established since April 8, 1980, has many competencies, including providing Warehouse services, National Data Repository, Information Management Solutions, to Radio Communication & Tracking. Radio trunking services/solutions that are included in the Radio Communication & Tracking service are currently still a prime business that SCU continues to develop. SCU is currently the only business entity that has competence and licenses in the field of Radio Trunking within the Pertamina Group and its affiliates.

Radio Trunking is a necessary business support solution for a company, especially as a strategic instrument to accelerate various communication processes. Ordinary people usually know the Radio Trunking solution as a communication service that uses HT (Handy Talky) which includes the provision of conventional communication via radio waves. “SCU Radio Trunking has decades of experience, and in its development it turns out that this solution is still much needed and in demand. This is due to Indonesia's geographical conditions which are not fully covered by GSM (Global System for Mobile Communications) coverage," said Adi Yatama Adi Guna, Director of PT Sigma Cipta Utama.

Therefore, on Monday-Friday, 21-25 November 2022 in Jakarta, SCU held an upskilling program for 6 selected officers through training and certification activities with the theme "Training Design and Deploy Motorola Capmax System". The upskilling program, which collaborates with and presents Trainers from Motorola Solutions Center Penang Malaysia, is a form of SCU's commitment to improving the competence of its officers regarding Radio Trunking, which is the mainstay of the company.

Adi explained, apart from being an effort to increase employee competency and capacity, the uspkilling program was also implemented by SCU so that it would continue to be adaptive to current technological developments. "Through the upskilling program, it is hoped that we can continue to maintain quality and add knowledge from the solutions we offer, so that the solutions controlled by companies become more widespread," said Adi.

The current Radio Trunking solution continues to grow. Not only in the form of conventional trunking, but it has also made it possible to combine two-way radio functionality with digital technology that can transmit not only voice but also data. “Currently, Radio Trunking solutions are also starting to be paired with existing technology. So there is already one device that can have two connections, can be radio, can be internet/GSM. It can take photos, it can create applications, it can input data, so it's like a smart HT," he explained.

Therefore the upskilling program organized by SCU carries the Motorolla Capmax training activities. “This is a new technology that is starting to sell well and is starting to be widely used. Of course, we, as the only company within Pertamina that focuses on Radio Trunking solutions, must quickly master this new technology," Adi added.

For the upstream oil and gas industry, Adi explained that the Radio Trunking business is still prospective in the future. First, because the locations of upstream oil and gas operations are usually located in remote areas with difficult connectivity because the GSM telecommunication network and infrastructure have not been fully developed. This condition allows Radio Trunking to be needed. Second, related to security issues where unlike an open GSM network, Radio Trunking uses a closed network so that users can maintain full control over the information that is shared with each other.

From these reasons, it is not surprising that more than 90 percent of field communications in oil and gas operations, both upstream and downstream, still utilize Radio Trunking. "So if you need reliability, you need secure privacy, this is a selling point for Radio Trunking. Especially for industries based on a strong SLA (Service Level Agreement). If the client says data must be sent or communication must be continuously on and connected, then it must be maintained, and Radio Trunking can take care of that," said Adi.

SCU itself is trying to develop the Radio Trunking market for the oil and gas industry, not only in the upstream oil and gas sector but also targeting the downstream oil and gas market, whose portion is still minimal. “For the development of the Radio Trunking business, of course we have to be very aggressive. SCU's target is to develop into the downstream oil and gas sector where the potential is quite large. There are quite a lot of opportunities for upstream oil and gas, but downstream, even if they are small, can be more massive if the opportunities are taken. We have great hopes that Radio Trunking will still be a promising business for SCU and provide a more suitable and integrated solution for its users," said Adi.

For its Radio Trunking solution, there are more than 4,000 devices owned and utilized by various SCU clients. This number is still growing following requests from clients in need. SCU clients from Pertamina include fields managed by Pertamina Hulu Indonesia (PHI), PHE NSO, PHE Raja Tempirai, PHE Jambi Merang, PHE OSES, PHE Ogan Komering, PHE ONWJ, PHE Tuban East Java, PEP Cepu Indonesia , PEP Asset 5, PEP Asset 4, to PTM MOR 5.

PT Pertamina Hulu Indonesia (PHI) as one of SCU's Radio Trunking clients expressed appreciation for the qualified performance of SCU's Radio Trunking solution, especially in supporting and facilitating PHI's upstream oil and gas operations. Main Director of PHI Chalid Said Salim revealed that there were several activities carried out by SCU in fields within PHI, starting from Radio Trunking, Computing Enterprise, to Vessel Tracking.

"PHI is committed to continuing to run oil and gas operations that are safe, reliable and sustainable. Therefore, the Radio Trunking solution provided by SCU has proven to be reliable in maintaining connectivity in the field. We hope that SCU and its officers can continue to improve their competence so that the Radio Trunking solution can continue to support the completion of various challenges in our oil and gas operations," said Chalid.
