Hunting for Oil and Gas Reserves in Majalengka

4 December 2020 - Petroleum is non-renewable energy. The government is pursuing an oil production target of 1 million barrels of oil per day (BOPD) and 12 billion standard cubic feet of gas per day (BSCFD) by 2030. Various policies and plans are being developed to achieve this target. One of them is by conducting a 2D Vibroseis Line Test survey in Majalengka Regency, West Java.

This 2D Vibroseis Line Test Survey is part of the fulfillment of the Jambi Merang Firm Work Commitment (KKP) in the 2nd year open area. In implementing this project, PT Elnusa Tbk (Elnusa) together with PT Pertamina Hulu Energi (PHE) Jambi Merang and the Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB) conducted a semi-research 2D Vibroseis Line Test survey as a first step to support the search for potential oil and natural gas.

The Majalengka area was chosen as the location for the test line survey based on geological technical considerations in an area covered by volcanic material and its hydrocarbon potential is not yet known in more detail. As initial research, a 15 km survey was carried out, but the challenges of conducting surveys on land are quite large. Apart from being carried out in the middle of a pandemic period, this activity is also in direct conflict with community facilities so that we must ensure the operation runs safely.

All of these efforts are very important in order to build national energy security, both today and in the future. Let us continue to support together Elnusa in meeting domestic energy needs.
