Jakarta – May 25, 2023, PT Elnusa Tbk (ELNUSA IDX: ELSA), a leading energy services company incorporated in Pertamina Upstream Subholding continues to collaborate with other companies within the Pertamina Group. Most recently, Elnusa's contribution in supporting the discovery of new oil and gas reserves by PT Pertamina Hulu Sanga Sanga (PHSS), a subsidiary of PT Pertamina Hulu Indonesia (PHI).
Using its own rig, namely the Elnusa Modular Rig 01 (EMR-01), Elnusa worked on the drilling of the Helios D-1 (HLX D-1) exploration well and managed to find new hydrocarbon deposits in the Sanga Sanga Working Area (WK) in Java Village, Sanga Sanga District, Kutai Kartanegara Regency, East Kalimantan.
Elnusa Director of Operations, Charles Harianto Lumbantobing said the findings of oil and gas reserves and oil and gas resources were the result of hard work and neat collaboration from all parties involved, starting from PHSS, Pertamina EP, Elnusa, and other contractors. "I express my highest appreciation to all parties, especially to Elnusa officers who have contributed positively to the discovery of new oil and gas reserves and resources so that they have contributed to achieving the Government's target towards oil production of 1 million barrels per day and gas production of 12 BSCFD in 2030 ,” said Charles.
Since being asked on October 5, 2022, Charles explained that Elnusa was involved in the drilling operation of the HLX D-1 exploration well and the drilling of the LSE-1147 development well by providing the EMR-01 rig with 1,500 HP power, supporting equipment and human resources, with scope of works. various kinds of work related to the function of the rig. "This is a new challenge for Elnusa, where usually we only drill development wells, but this time we are also able to drill exploratory wells," explained Charles.
Charles emphasized that Elnusa was able to anticipate challenges as long as the operation was going well. Not only that, Elnusa also emphasizes the importance of maintaining safety aspects in every work carried out in the field. "The HSSE programs that have been implemented have all gone well, starting from the safety campaign, management walkthrough (MWT), training, and various other programs, so that they can contribute to maintaining more than 1.2 million hours of safe man hours from the EMR-01 rig. cumulative since first operating in the Sanga Sanga area in 2018 until the work on the Helios D-1 well was completed," he explained.
In terms of innovation and technology used, Elnusa Officers took the initiative to make efforts to upgrade, change management, re-engineering, to modification of the equipment used to obtain optimal performance in the drilling work being carried out. "Elnusa always tries its best to optimize our capabilities, both in terms of innovation, technology, and human resources to face the challenges that lie ahead so that the trust given by PHSS and Pertamina EP can be carried out properly to completion," explained Charles.
Charles further said that the success of discovering resources and adding new oil and gas reserves through the Borderless Operation program was proof of Elnusa's technical superiority and good communication in working with PHSS and Pertamina EP which are members of Subholding Upstream Pertamina. "The drilling work in the Borderless Operation program is indeed quite complex involving many parties, but the results prove that Elnusa can carry out the job well. Going forward, Elnusa is always ready to be involved in various operational activities in other oil and gas work areas within Pertamina so that they can generate added value together," he said.
Meanwhile, President Director of PT Pertamina Hulu Indonesia (PHI) John Anis assesses Elnusa's significant role in the successful discovery of new oil and gas resources from the Helios D-1 well. "The Borderless Operation strategy implemented by PHI in the synergy of PHSS and Pertamina EP in overlapping Work Areas, Elnusa can answer with drilling activities that are on target, run smoothly and safely, and get the expected results," he said.
Based on the data being processed, John Anis added that the discovery of new oil and gas resources from the Helios D-1 well has quite promising potential. Therefore, in the future it is very open to develop potential new play areas to increase oil and gas reserves and support the continuity of production from PHSS. "We hope that the good synergy with Elnusa can continue to be carried out in drilling development wells and other exploration wells that we are working on in other locations so that it supports our steps in supporting increased oil and gas production for national energy security," concluded John.
